How to Clean Kitchen Cabinets: A Brilliant Hack Using Dawn and Tide
If you're like me and always on the lookout for clever cleaning hacks, you're in for a treat! Rach Plus Five recently shared a fantastic video where she put viral cleaning tips to the test.
Among the gems she revealed, one in particular caught my eye – using a mop to clean kitchen cabinets. It's nothing short of genius, and I can't believe I hadn't thought of it before!
In her video, Rach cleaned the cupboards with a spin mop, but there was one minor issue. She used the same mop she used for cleaning her floors. The solution? Buying a separate mop for the cabinets. However, I had a different idea in mind.

I happened to have a handy floor squeegee at home, which I thought would be the perfect tool for this project.
The beauty of the squeegee is that you can easily wrap it with a floor cloth and wash it once you're done, eliminating the need for dirty used mops on your cabinets.
Here are my cabinets before, they aren’t super dirty but there are a few grimy marks I can test.
My primary motivation for giving this trick a try was the ongoing challenge I face when it comes to reaching the uppermost section of my cabinet doors during my cleaning routine.
1. Prepare Your Cleaning Solution
Begin by filling a bowl with a bit of water. Then, add six pumps of Dawn Powerwash* to the water, and for an extra cleaning boost, include a tablespoon of Tide wash.
Handy Tip
You can make your own DIY Dawn Powerwash substitute by mixing 2 TBSP Dawn dish soap and 1 TBSP Isopropyl 70% Alcohol (rubbing alcohol) with distilled water.
1. Prepare Your Cleaning Solution
Begin by filling a bowl with a bit of water. Then, add six pumps of Dawn Powerwash* to the water, and for an extra cleaning boost, include a tablespoon of Tide wash.
2. Apply the Solution
Wet your microfiber cloth in the mixture you prepared and place it on the squeegee.
You're now ready to tackle those kitchen cabinets.
3. Clean Your Cabinets
Use the squeegee with the cloth attached to wipe down your cabinets, and you'll be amazed at the results.
It's truly a brilliant trick.
4. Bonus - Cleaning Your Walls
The beauty of this nifty trick doesn't end with just your cabinets. You can extend it to cleaning your walls as well.
I decided to give it a go in my living area and loved it so much that I even cleaned my staircase walls. The cleaning solution worked like a charm, the dawn and tide really removed any stubborn marks.
How to Clean Kitchen Cabinets With a Mop
This cleaning hack is a game-changer that will find a permanent spot in my cleaning routine.
It's not just about cleaning kitchen cabinets; it's a versatile method that can be used for walls, baths and other surfaces.
Now I need to try the other great tip Rach Plus Five suggests in her video, cleaning the walls with a paint roller, can’t wait to see how that turns out!
If you have any great cleaning tips and ideas to share, we'd love to hear them!

Nma126973486 on Sep 11, 2024Realize the Dawn formula has now been changed to have a new scent. It is awful. I bought up 10 one gallon jugs at Home Depot of the original. Enough to last more than a lifetime. I’m surprised about the change. People tend now to opt for fragrance free cleaners. Oh well. They'll figure it out - maybe.

I've been using this method for over 50 years. It's also great for baseboards. Taking wallpaper off walls with warm water & vinegar on a mop is also a great idea. Once I had a large flat surface to paint I used a mop. Thus the invention of the "Swifter" style.

Why do you say Blue Dawn? There are tons of other dish detergents out there and now one knows why the whole world keeps promoting it. I have done many side by side tests of other dish soap and do not see any difference. On top of that the cleaner found in the Dollar stores called Awesome beats MOST cleaners hands down for $1.25. I handles tough grease, and cleans items no detergent will get. My floors now shine after using VERY expensive things like Bona that is a HUGE waste of money. I use Awesome to clean my oven, floors it will surpass any Dawn task by a mile.
