Farmhouse Style Curtains

I had a gotten quite a few questions on my last tutorial for my chandelier about how I opened the shutters with the chandelier hanging in the way. Well here is the answer to that question. I knew if that project came to life the way I had it envisioned in my head, that I would be changing out that window treatment anyhow. I just wanted to see how that project played out before I committed the time to changing the whole window, because, lets be real, not every DIY attempted turns out how it was initially envisioned! But since this one did, I got to work on the new window treatments for my bathroom to allow more natural filtered light into the room so my little green friends can continue to thrive. I got this idea from Pinterest, but needed to make it a little more budget friendly! I’ll show you how I made these tab top curtain panels as well as how to create the wall treatment to hang it on!

DIY Rustic Farmhouse Tables

I am getting thoroughly frustrated with the furniture you can buy in stores. I will pay $200-300 for desks and side tables made of pressed particleboard. Within a year or two, they are already crumbling. On another frustrated note, the designs I like typically end up costing me a lot more than I want to pay, or are missing something! So, I started to learn how to build my own furniture. I typically use less expensive pine you can find in a hardware store to keep the cost down. Any nicks in my kitchen table are considered "memories" - haha! My guests had started asking me where I was buying my furniture - when I told them I actually built it, they were interested in the prospect of me building their own furniture. One of these builds included a coffee table and a pair of side tables for my brother in law's living room. His girlfriend and I did some searching to find exactly what she was looking for and then I came up with a plan and went to Lowe's.

Sometimes repairing a furniture piece can cost more than buying something brand new and it can be more work than if you just built something from scratch. This buffet was one of those pieces. Linda reached out to us asking if we could some how make this buffet come back to life. It’s been in her family for generations and it had been living outside for quite a while so it needed MUCH love to make it usable (or even make it stand up for that matter). John looked at me like I was crazy when I said, sure we can. Here is the buffet before. It’s not on its side because I wanted a before picture showing it at its worst, it’s on its side because the back leg was completely off so it wouldn’t even stand up.

I Painted an Upholstered Chair!

Have you ever painted upholstery? I have seen lots of videos of people converting the look of fabric-covered furniture into pieces that look like leather! They claim that the fabric actually feels like leather - or at least faux leather. Some of the people use chalk paint then wax while others use latex or acrylic paint and add fabric softener or fabric medium to the paint. While I've considered giving this technique a try, I was not willing to test it on a piece of furniture that I use all the time at home.

I’ve always loved the look of faux leather sofa’s but couldn’t justify spending $4000+.A while ago we purchased the ikea ektorp sectional and initially had white sofa covers which were dreamy but totally ridiculous with kids haha.We then switched to grey slipcovers which worked better with kids but were kind of bland.After looking online I saw a tutorial using paint and fabric softener to create a faux leather look, and wondered how it would work on Ikea canvas slipcovers.So I didn’t have a wet couch with a toddler and a baby, I decided to paint the white slipcovers separately.Well it worked and I am in LOVE!!!!!!

Imagine these in every room of your house...only they have been painted at least 100 times (maybe a little less, but not much) and they are all chipped, rusted and ugly. I looked up replacing them, but what I can find is super expensive!!! What would you suggest using to clean these up (stripping off paint??) without having to detach the base from the wall to prevent destroying walls, paint, etc. I am not even sure the base comes off or it it does it will not come off easily without prying. I know the vent portion will pop out easier.

How an I update this knotty pine wall without painting it?

I’m tired of looking at my “70’s” wall but I like the different textures of wood and brick. I’m going to white wash the brick but unsure if I should stain the wood brown to get rid of the “orange” color or pickle/white wash the wood. I’d prefer not to paint the wood since I want the wood grain/knots to still show. Any suggestions on the best technique to use for either stain or white wash? I’ve read horror stories on refinishing knotty pine.

How to hide an Ugly Vent?

I live in a restored 1900 farmhouse, but I wasn't the one that did the restoration. I haven't a clue why they placed this living room vent on the main wall instead of the side near the bookcase. Any ideas as to make it less ugly, as I know I can't cover it. Every room in the house is pretty much painted and decorated except this one, and it is the main room!
