How to Do a 48-Hour Bedroom Refresh on a Budget

Does your primary bedroom need a refresh? Mine did and I accromplished it in just 48 hours using the power of paint. You won't believe the difference a simple coat of paint can make to refresh a bedroom on a budget.

Begin by gathering ideas and inspiration so you can envision the look you want for your bedroom. Choose a paint color that resonates with your style and complements your existing decor. Collect all the necessary materials and tools to ensure a smooth process.

Tools and materials

  • Paint (color of your choice for the walls)
  • Paint rollers and brushes
  • Painter's tape
  • Drop cloths
  • Furring strips (for the accent wall)
  • Nails and a hammer (for attaching furring strips)
  • Screwdriver or drill (for changing the light fixture)
  • New light fixture

Creating an accent wall

1. Create an accent wall

Measure the dimensions of the wall you want to accent. Purchase furring strips that are long enough to cover the height of the wall.

Use a level to ensure that the furring strips will be straight. Mark the locations where you'll attach the furring strips using a pencil.

Carefully attach the furring strips to the wall using nails and a hammer. Make sure they're evenly spaced and securely fastened. These strips will create the foundation for your accent wall.

Painting the walls

2. Paint the walls

Begin by protecting your floors and any furniture with drop cloths.

Use painter's tape to cover baseboards, trim, and the edges of the accent wall to ensure clean lines.

Start painting the walls with the color of your choice. Use a roller for larger areas and brushes for corners and edges.

Apply a second coat if needed for a more even and vibrant finish. Allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions between coats.

I also refreshed the paint on the other walls, which were white.

3. Replace the light fixture

Turn off the power to the room from the circuit breaker to ensure your safety.

Use a screwdriver or drill to remove the old light fixture from the ceiling.

Follow the instructions that come with your new light fixture to install it securely. If necessary, ask someone to assist you in holding the fixture while you connect the wires.

Once the fixture is in place, turn the power back on and test the new light.
