How to prevent fruit flies?

I put out a few small dishes with apple cider vinegar in them. Catches them like crazy.

Pour cider vinegar to just cover bottom of jar. Add a drop of dish soap (this will make sure that the fruit flies cannot fly away). Now cover the jar with plastic wrap & poke a few little holes in the top.

I know, me too! I also like that you can hide the jar behind something & you can throw it away later instead of using a bowl that you have to make sure you don't bump & then have to wash later.

Thank you Judi for your help, I tried the normal vinegar before but it didn't workout. I'll use from now on the cider vinegar and I'm crossing my fingers that those alliens go away.

This is what I do, wash all fruit and vegies when you bring them home and store all in the refrig except bananas. If there were any eggs on the produce they are now in the drain, to address this problem put 1/2 cup of baking soda in each kitchen drain and follow with 1 cup vinegar. When the fizzing stops rinse well with hot water for a min or so, cover the drains with a stopper. For the airborne ones, take a mice sticky cardboard trap and cut 1 in half with the plastic cover on it, peel off the plastic cover off 1 of these halves and place a piece of decaying fruit in the center of it, that will draw them. They will land and that ends the cycle.

You may be able to get a fly trap (Victorian )Glass Trap) You put them on table etc and flies and bugs are atracted to fruit or syrup put inside but can't get out!
