Over the years I've had both hardwood and carpet as flooring in bedrooms and my preference would now be wood. Wood is easy to clean, you can add an area rug(s) if you want. Carpeting gets stained and dirty over time. Though wood is likely more expensive to begin with, I believe that over time it would be a better choice than carpet. I currently have carpet and though I live alone and vacuum regularly when I use my carpet shampooer, I'm always disgusted with how dirty the water in the tank of the shampooer is after cleaning. Yuck!!

Go with the wood, if you need some creature comfort put a nice rug next to the bed, or for the best of both worlds, an area rug.

Hello Amy: I'm a carpeting person. My entire home, bedrooms, living room, family room, bathrooms and kitchen are all carpeted. If anything will get me going in the morning, it's stepping on grit! Carpeting is easy to clean and lasts a long time. One of my bedrooms has carpeting in it that's 50 years old and still looks great! While hardwood is beautiful, I don't care for the coldness or the way it makes sound echo. That's my take on things :)

Why not have the wood finish and a couple of Mats etc.

I have recently changed my floors in the front of the house and love them. I want to put hardwoods in my bedroom, but I know I would need an area rug under and around the bed.

  • As a person with allergies, hardwood all the way. It's so much easier to clean and keep clean, especially if you have pets.

  • We have allergy sufferers in my home so every room has a wood floor and a cotton area rug. I also really prefer the look.

Before laminate or wood became popular, decades ago I had carpeting in every room. I am sorry we spent the money on it.....dirt & pet hair & who knows what else embeds in it. I became a fan of laminate that looks just like wood & a couple area rugs.....so much easier to clean.

I agree with some others, I love the look of hardwood but also the comfort and convenience of having an area rug. It's the best of both!

For cleaning hardwood is best, but I like a nice soft carpet in the bedrooms. If you want hardwoods consider buying a large area rug for under and around the bed for warmth.
