What would you do with a Space between a shed and a fence.

This is very similar to a space at my house. I use it for my succulent garden. I also have a fly through and house seed freder for the birds. And as a big bonus, a fig tree popped up there last year and I am leaving it there as the leaves make shade and provides pretty dappled light. I sectioned it off and put tumbled pea gravel down with stepping stones.

I'd line up my Recycle, Yard Waste, & Garbage Cans...(Ha Ha) Or make a dog run & special decorated house for my canine buddy. (Smiles) Have Fun!

if you do a lot of gardening you could use the space to put a compost bin, and use grass cuttings, fallen leaves and kitchen scraps. Otherwise hostas are great decorative plants that tolerate versatile sun.

I would outline the area by the shed with a more definite shape.Put down landscape fabric before you plant. Instead of hosts for vacation of color you can plant Heuchera which comes in a variety of color.Your planting zone was not mentioned,however it is a perennial.Once the plantings are dine I would put more landscape fabric down where the lawn is and put decorative stones.Hang birdhouse,place a gazing ball,solar lights would add as well.

Since it's kinda U shaped you could make a perimeter garden. I would plant a white crape myrtle in the back and plant different specimen plants around the U. Like hollies, or boxwoods, or cleyera, or even roses. Then fill in with perennials and annuals. Add a gazing ball or even a birdbath, garden flag, stones, etc.

You could also make a reading/relaxation nook. Lay some pathway stones or gravel. Place some flower-filled pots around a lounger. String up some lights or even a umbrella, a firepot, a small goldfish pond, a small table to set a drink on.

Think about what suits you the most.

I would give it to wildlife. ie I would put insect houses, bee houses, a pile of wood for the hedgehogs, a small pond for frogs/toads. bird boxes, somewhere for butterflies and ladybirds (ladybugs) etc etc. anything to give wildlife a hand.

Then get rid of the one that involves the most labor / time to create of the remaining 3. Then put the remaining 2 on paper and draw out of a hat to reveal the winner. This should help you to decide out of all the great ideas thrown your way! My idea for the space? Small lounge area with firepit table, chaise, twinkle lights, and a good book!

I would remove the grass down the middle leaving just enough grass on each side to landscape & put in a black plastic border to keep grass from growing back in the area you removed it. Once the grass is removed lay down like bisqueen or something similar to keep weeds from coming up, put down sand (or not) tamp down for solid footing and then lay stepping stones (square or round... whichever is your fave) and then lay smooth stones around that, something like a river rock. Then plant something along the sides that does well in indirect sunlight. You'll have a walkway to do your gardening and it will last forever. I had an above ground pool in my last home and did that to make a walkway from the patio out to the pool. Looked fantastic. I was going to do that in our side yard (similar to yours) but never got to it before we moved.

for some reason the phrase "grotto" comes to mind..... greenery with different textures on the perimeter, gravel and a table for 2, or a fountain, or statuary.

Hi Susan, hope this helps. You could plant ferns, lily of the valley, or Hostas. Also you can get some cute things to hang on the fence, and a nice little bench or bistro set for the hot days when you need shade. U=You could even put up a little lean-to shed.

Sidewalk blocks or some other form of surface for the table and chairs/bench

It might make a nice cozy area for a couple of chairs, a small table to sit and chat with a friend. If you don't like the grass, pull it out and add some pea gravel for easy care.
