I've heard you can get rust off by soaking it in cola soft drinks. Also there is a product called Navel Jelly that is supposed to remove rust. My mother used a rust remover bought in the laundry section that might work, I can't recall the name.

steel wool or aluminum balled up and rub it off, may need wire brush; needs to be recoated/sealed or it will just rust again use some rustoleum spray paint comes in many colors.
