Tree Stump to Fairy House.

We recently had a tree taken down in my wife's flower garden and because of the location, the tree service couldn't get the stump grinder in to grind the stump - So I had them leave about 3 feet of the trunk, and I turned it into a fairy house.
I carved out an area for the door and window, and cut them from marine plywood I had lying around in the shop. I built the roof from some scrap plywood and a bundle of $8 underlayment cedar shingles from Lowes, which should age nicely over time. To get the light in the window, I dismantled a cheap $5 solar lantern, and resoldered the bulb onto the end of a long wire and weather proofed the connection with hot melt glue and black electrical tape. The solar cell and battery base of the lamp sits in a sunny area, and the wire is buried and comes in from the back of the stump through a hole I drilled, with the lamp exposed in the window cavity.
To make the light in the window a warm yellow/orange instead of bright white (the color of the LED) I cut the bottom off of a prescription pill bottle and glued that to the bulb. My wife added a few plants and some moss, and we were done. She made a little curtain for the window, and now when dusk comes, the light in the window switches on, which just means that the fairy is home for the evening. :)

I love this idea. I have a huge tree being cut down this weekend. It has a great, above ground root system to I think I'll be making a Fairy Village. It reminds me of The Hobbit. Thanks for the ideas.
