Reversible Checkerboard Wooden Tray

An ebony-stained checkerboard on one side of this reversible wooden tray provides a bit of whimsey and loads of fun to this very functional DIY project!
I love this tray! The handles just pull through to either side, so I can use it as a checkerboard or as a plain wood tray.

This tray started as a damaged wood panel from the scratch and dent section at Lowe's!
After staining and drilling holes for the rope handles, the tray is ready for a coat of polyurethane (I used water-based Polysatin). Here's the finished product:
