The Easiest Way to DIY Some Rustic Wood Candlesticks

I've been seeing rustic wood candlesticks all over the place lately.....on blogs, in magazines, displayed on Fixer Upper.....and I knew they were something that I wanted to DIY. Some are tall. Some are chunky. Some are painted. Some are wood. But they all are fabulous!
This is a really simple DIY project and it can be adapted to fit into almost any decor. If the bare rustic wood isn't your style, paint the candlesticks. Or leave the stained wood as it is and just follow the instructions to make the taller candleholder. The important thing is to make what makes you happy! The complete instructions are available on my blog at the link below.
These dark stained candlesticks are readily available at thrift stores and antique shops and can be picked up for practically nothing. Some of these were in okay condition, but many were already a little distressed.
There are only two steps to making these easy candleholders. The first step is to sand away the stained finish that is on them. It reveals a beautiful bare wood.
Then choose two candlesticks and glue them together. I had a variety of different shapes and sizes, but I did have a pair that had a hexagonal base. I chose to use the two of them as the top of both of my candlesticks and chose unmatched ones for the base.
If you would like to have the rustic candleholders hold taper candles, glue the base of one candlestick onto the top of the other. That way the taper holder remains at the top.
For this project, I chose to make candlesticks that would hold pillar candles. To do this, glue the tops of two candlesticks together leaving a flat surface on the top.

Very cute! You can also use table legs from Home Depot .....I've glued/nailed old muffin tins at the top to hold the candle.....anything will do if u can attach it!

@Kathleen Sozzi Smart idea! The table legs would make some beautiful tall candleholders. When I started this post, I was going to attach an old pie tin turned upside down to the top.....Then after I got all the photos done, I realized I forgot to do it! Thanks so much for the idea Kathleen!
