Plain to Polka Dots

I picked up this plain ol' (dirty) white side table at Goodwill for $15. I looooved the bamboo detail but knew I wanted to give it a little color. And maybe a little pattern too! One of my favorite ways of fixing up furniture is to use fabric instead of paint and this side table was the perfect little piece to get polka dotted with!

Here's what the table looked like before. Dirty. And drab. And dull.

The drawer fronts had a faux basket weave pattern to I used some spackel to even out the ridges a bit. I wanted this to me smooth, not bumpy.

I cut the fabric (Amy Butler's Sun Spots from Online Fabric Store) to size and then used some polycrylic to adhere it to the table. I went back over with a few coats of polycrylic to seal it. It's really as simple as that: lay the fabric on the surface, and 'glue' it in place with the polycrylic.

You can use as much or as little fabric as you like! I covered the top and the drawer front.

It's perfect up in my daughter's room as a sturdy bedside table to store her favorite books and other odds and ends. (See how it looks in her room here.)
