From Ugly Front Door to Overnight Sensation, Thanks to a Little Paint!

4 Materials
Some projects are hard to do.
Here's an example. My front door has looked dismal for 10 long years! Why?
1. I hated working with the paint I was using for my house trim.
2. I didn't know what to do with the rest of the house.
3. So I kept changing my mind on the front door area.
I have plenty more excuses if you desire a better range, just say the word...
Well, that all changed when some happy mail brought some new paint on my door step that promised to be easy to work with. Ok then, this is more like it!
So with paint and paint brush in hand, I RAN outdoors (PJ clad) ready to get front door happy...
Now my biggest question is...
What took me so long?
I seriously can NOT believe this is my front door! Seriously. I feel like I should dress up better in my own home now... or something.

Here's why I'm so stunned...
I lived with this front door for 10 years. Full of dog scratches, and with the burgundy not even matching the rest of the house. Very tired indeed.

And then there's those side window frames...
I would get a brainstorm and start, but then never finish.

Do you have any idea how many photo shoots I've had to edit this mess out of? Countless.
This summer I resolved to stop photo editing so much, and get painting instead!

So I went over a chart for Fusion Mineral Paint and spied Homestead Blue. BINGO. That would look pretty against the brick! Maybe I wouldn't feel like tearing it down then...

So, I loaded my fav little brush up, and got right to it!

What I love about this paint is, it has a built in primer and topcoat! But you'll want to check with a Fusion rep to ensure you're doing the proper prep, depending on your project.

So I started cutting in... and it was covering in ONE coat!

Well, that certainly works for the likes of lazy 'ol me.
The door was done so fast, it took WAY longer to remove and reinstall the door hardware! Wow.

But now the outer window frames needed some help... so I finished them up, using the trim colour used on the rest of the house.

(brown - black colour recipe is in the original blog post link below)
Oh my goodness... the drama! With the side windows done, they resembled a gallery, so I propped my rustic best up for display. LOVE.

(paint was a custom colour, created with Cloverdale Paint in Canada)
BEFORE...
AFTER!

Goodness... who lives here? Isn't the difference striking?

Honestly, I feel silly waiting so long to paint this area now. I mean, it was so fast, I'm debating on changing the door colour every few seasons, just because I CAN.

What do YOU think of the new look?
Up for more Fusion fun?

Wait till you see how adding a little paint dramatically turned this ugly cupboard into something spectacular...

Beautiful - love the trim brown/black. I know Cloverdale is in BC, is this their specific colour or is it available elsewhere?

Did you paint the entire door with a brush or just the cut in? So many posts here and on other sites recommend a paint sprayer for doors. Getting ready to paint ours, and not sure which route to take. Thank you for your input, and it looks awesome!

Also, sorry, just thought to ask - is it a wooden door or steel? Does that make a difference as to brush /sprayer???
