Old Phonograph Makeover-- April's Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest

When I saw this old phonograph at the thrift store, I made a beeline straight for it. Although it had been spray painted black and was an ugly duckling at the time, I was drawn to the elegant Queen Ann style and the uniqueness of the piece. I knew a little love and a lot of elbow grease could bring it back to life.
As you can see, the paint job was poorly done and someone had added a shelf at the bottom. Gasp!!! What had they been thinking??? My wood purist heart wanted to restore this piece back to it's original stained wood glory.
The light coat of spray was easy to strip off.
I could see pretty wood showing through as the stripper was working. I was so excited...
And then this happened... Doors with two different kinds of wood grain!!! Now I knew why someone had spray painted it! At this point I decided I would have to paint this baby after all and this would be my project piece for the April Fab Flippin' contest.
I used one of the white paints in the Classico line provided by our sponsor Pure & Original. This wonderful paint doesn't need to be sealed for indoor or outdoor use! Can you believe that? It adheres well and leaves a smooth and silky finish. Next, I stained and sealed the top.
Then I reevaluated at this point and thought she needed a little pop of color for added interest. I found some digital downloads on Etsy and decoupaged the insets on the front doors.
The white paint was too glaringly white and contrasted greatly with the time worn look of the top. So I glazed the white paint for an antiqued look then dry brushed over it in certain places so that the glaze didn't look so uniform and so that it didn't appear to sitting on the surface of the paint.
