Thrifted Blue and White Family Room

We moved into our new (but old and historic) house in April and have been trying to update it a bit ever since. Lots of the changes have been simply cosmetic and the paint color in our family room was the biggest before and after to date! The old color was a mustard-yellow... probably very popular back in the 80s but dreary and depressing to us. We had the entire room painted with Benjamin Moore's White Dove and it has changed the space entirely! Now it's bright and clean and cheerful and our eclectic blue and white decor can shine!
This is how our family room looks now... bright, cheerful, up-to-date! Keep reading to see how it looked a few months ago when we first moved in...
Here's how this room looked during our walk through. Look carefully... the mustard yellow is EVERYwhere. On the window trim, on the crown molding, on the mantel, inside the closets, even on the spindels going up the stairs!
Those ikat chairs were the first things I ever had reupholstered. I bought the pair for $100 and used coffee sacks along the bottom and across the back... my upholstered thought I was nuts, but I STILL love these guys!
The sectional came with back cushions but it made the couch seem too short, so we removed those and went on a throw pillow spree. The kids usually use these to make forts, but it allowed me to bring in some fun texture to the space AND the couch feels more comfortable. See where I found all those pillows here.
