Put some red pepper in the plants. One good smell and your cat will stay away. Won't harm the plants or the cat. Also keeps dogs and cats away from lawns or gardens.

Sprinkle cayenne pepper around the leaves of houseplants and your cat will back away pretty quickly. Cats also hate the smell of citrus. Put orange and lemon peels in your pots along with the plants to help deter them. Another option is spraying the leaves directly with diluted lemon juice or orange oil.

Wood toothpicks placed in the pot soil, they won't hurt themselves on them. You can do it decoratively so you can live with the look, you can use green ones or brown by soaking them in food color first. Leave them high enough so they know they are there.

Crumple up tin foil to cover the soil. It associates dirt to its litter. But using anything that discourages it from going near the pots should help. Good luck.

At my former home, a neighbours cat always came and sprayed in my flower beds. I read that leaving orange peel laying around would discourage this. It did, BUT I found an easier way. Picked up a bottle of orange scented spray cleaner at the dollar store and sprayed it around the garden (re-sprayed after a heavy rain) and never had the problem again. Have used the same thing at my new home to discourage the red squirrel from my patio tomatoes and it seems to be working.

A simple solution is to cut out rounds the size of the pot with a hole in the center for the plant. Use either a flexible plastic, like from a flexible cutting board or even cardboard.

Good luck

They don't like Peppermint. You can either spray peppermint oil on it, or place some dried peppermint on top of the soil. I have mint growing outside so you could probably get some from a friend for FREE.
