How To Dress Up An Ordinary Room Divider With Metallics

Debbie Hayes of My Patch of Blue Sky shares another stunning guest post on our Cafe blog with her excitement for our Metal Effects products. Let's take a look.
Her latest project was updating an old room divider that was in desperate need of some TLC and an artistic eye. She found this heavy wooden folding screen at a shop that was closing and although she knew it had potential, she didn't yet know what to do with it.
It was only months later that Debbie would dream up a gorgeous finish for this piece and decided to use our Iron Reactive Paints from our Metal Effects line and Platinum from our Metallic Paint Collection.
Since she was working directly on the wood, Debbie applied a coat of our Metal Effects Primer in order to protect and prevent the Rust Activator from reaching the wood. She allowed the primer to dry overnight.
Next she applied 2 coats of Iron Reactive Paint. What makes this paint so unique is that it contains real metal particles that will rust naturally over time if left to the elements or it can be made to rust in no time at all when combined with our Rust Activator.
In a separate container, Debbie poured the Rust Activator in preparation for brushing. Since she was working on this project in her kitchen, she decided to brush instead of spray. She also applied plastic sheeting underneath the divider to catch any running excess activator.
After about an hour, her wooden divider was showing a beautiful rust finish that would serve as the perfect background for her next steps.
Using our Platinum Metallic Paint, Debbie used the Esperanza Lace Tile stencil from Royal Design Studio to stencil a shimmery pattern over the rust finish.
The combination of the dull rust against the brilliance of the Platinum creates a contrast that looks amazing and full of character. What a transformation! We hope we've inspired you to try our Metal Effects products on your next project for a unique twist.

My husband is painting the bedroom this week. I’m on an air mattress because I’m disabled. All the cats think it’s great fun! I’m going to paint some of that silver design on my newly blue and turquoise walls as the foundation of a collage directly on the wall. The pillows, drapes, and bedding are Indian - bohemian, so this stencil will be perfect. I just love it. (I’m an artist.)

Thanks for sharing this checklist. I coat my roof with EPDM Liquid Butyl Rubber roof coating for maintenance purposes. Liquid EPDM is an ASTM certified, DIY product that works very effectively without any need of a primer, contains mildewcides and fungicides and has excellent waterproofing abilities and many more amazing features. EPDM coating has a long list of benefits including UV and ozone resistance, solar reflectivity, a waterproof membrane, expandability and corrosion resistance. I also highly recommend it to every house owner.
